Crichton's Wormhole Knowledge
A human brain holding the secret to galactic weapons.
John Crichton's Wormhole Knowledge refers to specialized data regarding wormhole technology that was placed within his subconscious mind by mysterious aliens known as the Ancients. This discovery occurred after Crichton, a modern-day American astronaut, accidentally flew into a wormhole near Earth during an experimental space flight. Unlike standard technology, this knowledge resides entirely in his neural pathways, making him a living target for both the militaristic Peacekeepers and their rivals, the Scarrans.

Lore & Background
The nature of Crichton's possession was revealed during Season One when he was imprisoned by the Peacekeeper commander Scorpius. Under torture at a Peacekeeper base, Crichton discovered that the Ancients had embedded specialized wormhole knowledge in his subconscious. This revelation sparked an arms race for wormhole technology weapons as various factions sought to extract the data. The burden of this knowledge drove much of the series' progressive story arcs, including Crichton's obsession with finding a way back to Earth and his ongoing struggle against Scorpius.
In Their Own Story
During Season Two, the conflict over Crichton's mind escalated when Scorpius revealed he had implanted Crichton with a neural chip containing a clone of his own personality. This clone, whom Crichton nicknamed Harvey, was designed to track down the wormhole knowledge and protect both Crichton and Scorpius until it was found. The situation reached a breaking point at a medical colony where Harvey took control of Crichton's body, nearly killing Aeryn Sun just as she admitted her love for him. Eventually, Scorpius caught up with them again, killed the doctor attending to Crichton, and announced that the chip had completed its work by finding the wormhole knowledge. He then removed the chip, leaving Crichton incapacitated at the hospital.
Reader's Guide
To access or protect the wormhole knowledge, characters in Farscape utilized extreme measures ranging from torture to neural implants. The Peacekeepers initially sought to extract the data directly from Crichton's mind after his capture by Scorpius. Later, the Scarrans intervened, kidnapping Crichton and utilizing the neural chip known as Harvey to locate the information. The knowledge was not a tool for travel in itself but rather the blueprint for weapons capable of harnessing wormhole technology. By the end of Season Two, the specific method used to secure this data involved Scorpius physically removing the neural chip from Crichton's brain after confirming it had successfully retrieved the required information.
