The narrative centers on the war between the Peacekeepers and Scarrans, ignited by Scorpius's unauthorized actions. The conflict intensifies over John Crichton, whose mind holds knowledge to turn wormholes into weapons of mass destruction. While Crichton and Aeryn Sun were crystallized in the series finale, they are revived two months later on a water world that serves as the last outpost of the Eidelons. This race, once known for encouraging peace via empathic abilities, had forgotten their powers after their homeworld Arnessk became uninhabitable 12,000 cycles prior. The Peacekeeper fleet under Scorpius and the Scarran fleet under Emperor Staleek engage in battle near this world. The war reveals historical context: Sebaceans (Aeryn's race) were early humans genetically engineered from Earth 27,000 cycles ago to serve as Peacekeepers after Eidelons departed. Without Eidelon moderation, the Peacekeepers became a militaristic expansionist empire.

In Their Own Story

The story begins with Crichton and Aeryn revived on a water world by Rygel, who retrieved their crystallized components from the ocean floor. However, Aeryn's unborn child was found inside Rygel after he ingested the particles. As Moya travels to Arnessk, it is harpooned by Tragan bounty hunters hired by Peacekeepers searching ships leaving their territory. On Arnessk, the crew meets the Eidelon Hierarch, who reveals Sebacean origins before a Scarran Decimator destroys the temple, killing Jool. D'Argo and Chiana attempt to scout the Decimator on Lo'La but are detected; Lo'La is destroyed, though they are rescued by D'Argo's son Jothee. Crichton takes Staleek through a wormhole to meet Einstein, an Ancient who proves Crichton cannot create weapons, convincing Staleek to seek peace until War Minister Akhna shoots the Hierarch and clears Staleek's mind. Stark absorbs the Hierarch's power but is forced to transfer it to Aeryn after Rygel suffers a seizure. Escaping Scarran captivity with Luxan help, Crichton unlocks full wormhole knowledge from Einstein. The water world becomes a battleground where Scorpius discovers Sikozu betrayed them for promises of freedom. In the chaos, Aeryn gives birth to a boy, and D'Argo is mortally wounded covering their retreat.
